This document describes moving a SignLogger installed in the old layout to the A/B (dual-slot) layout using the converter ISO: the conversion steps, the messages that may appear on the screen, what to do if the conversion stalls or fails, and what to check after the conversion. In the A/B layout the system resides in two separate slots (A and B).
Important: Take a snapshot of the virtual machine before starting the conversion. On a physical server, make sure your backup is up to date.
How does the conversion proceed?
The converter writes every step to the screen. The steps are, in order:
- Pre-check: The disk layout, version, free space, network cards and database are checked. Nothing is written to the disk at this stage.
- Archive: The entire old system disk is archived to the data disk.
- Configuration and data migration: Settings, users, reports and other data are moved to the new layout.
- Partitioning: The system disk is repartitioned for the A/B layout. After this step the old system no longer exists on the disk; rollback is done from the archive.
- Slots: The new system is written to slots A and B.
- Trial boot: The appliance restarts and boots with the new system. If the boot is healthy, the conversion is complete.
Every step is recorded. If there is a power outage or a restart, the conversion continues from the step where it left off.
Messages on the screen
The converter shows its messages in Turkish; the English meaning is given in parentheses.
| Message | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| ÖN KONTROL GEÇMEDİ — diske dokunulmadı (pre-check failed — disk not touched) | A criterion was not met in the pre-check (e.g. insufficient free space, unsupported disk layout). | Resolve the cause stated in the message. The appliance boots with the old system. |
| Dönüştürücü ortamı, eski sistem diski ya da veri diski bulunamadı — diske dokunulmadı (converter media, old system disk or data disk not found — disk not touched) | The ISO, system disk or data disk is not visible. | Check that the ISO is attached and the disks are connected. |
| Göç başarısız; dönüşüm durduruldu, eski sistemle açılıyor (migration failed; conversion stopped, booting with the old system) | The data migration could not be verified. The conversion stops before partitioning. | The appliance boots with the old system. Contact the support team with a screenshot. |
| DESTEK KİPİ (support mode) | Automatic continuation or rollback is not possible; the data is safe on the data disk. | Take a screenshot and contact the support team. Do not power off the machine or change the disks. |
The error message stays on the screen for 300 seconds, after which the appliance restarts. Take a photo of the message within this time.
The ISO during the conversion
The ISO can remain attached throughout the conversion and during the trial boot. The default option in the ISO boot menu is Diskten başlat (boot from disk); the appliance boots from the disk and continues the conversion.
If you need to restart the conversion manually, select the SignLogger A/B donusumu entry in the boot menu; the conversion continues from the step where it left off.
What to check after the conversion
- The appliance boots with the same network settings. Network cards without a saved network profile obtain their address via DHCP.
- You log in to the panel and the CLI with your existing panel administrator accounts. The default administrator can log in with the
adminusername or with their email address. - Set the password of the signed-log SFTP account again from the panel.
- If the panel shows the “Erişim engellendi (Trusted Host değil)” (access denied — not a trusted host) warning, follow the steps in “Access denied (not a Trusted Host)” warning in the panel.
If the appliance returned to the old system after the conversion
The new system is tried once at the first boot. If one of the core services (e.g. RADIUS, Log Search DB, management panel) does not start during the trial, the health check fails; the appliance restarts and boots with the old system. This is a protective behaviour: your data is not lost and the old system keeps running as before.
Known issue: With older converter ISO versions, on appliances with an 802.1x certificate configured, the RADIUS service could not read the certificate and did not start, so the appliance returned to the old system. The current converter ISO fixes this. Restart the conversion with the current converter ISO; if the problem persists, contact the support team with the information below.
Information for a support request
- A screenshot of the message on the screen and the last lines
- The version of the appliance before the conversion
- The file name of the converter ISO used
If the appliance boots with the old or the new system, see Collecting information for a support request for additional information you can collect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data deleted during the conversion to the A/B layout?
No. Before partitioning, the converter archives the entire old system disk to the data disk and moves your settings, users and reports to the new layout. If the data migration cannot be verified, the conversion stops before partitioning and the appliance boots with the old system. Taking a snapshot or backup before you start is still recommended.
What happens if the power fails during the conversion?
Because every step is recorded, the conversion continues from the step where it left off when the appliance starts again. If necessary, you can continue the conversion manually by selecting the SignLogger A/B donusumu entry in the ISO boot menu.
The screen shows “ÖN KONTROL GEÇMEDİ” (pre-check failed). What should I do?
A criterion (e.g. free space or disk layout) was not met in the pre-check and nothing was written to the disk. Resolve the cause stated in the message and restart the conversion; meanwhile the appliance keeps running with the old system.
Why did the appliance boot with the old system after the conversion?
One of the core services did not start during the trial boot of the new system, so the health check failed; the appliance returns to the old system to protect your data. On appliances with an 802.1x certificate configured, this happened with older converter ISO versions; try again with the current converter ISO.
What should I do on the “DESTEK KİPİ” (support mode) screen?
Do not power off the machine and do not change the disks. Your data is safe on the data disk. Take a photo of the screen and contact the support team.
